Celebrations & Revelations, Part III
In the relative darkness and quiet of the lower village…
…a large group of people make their way up the branch paths.
They arrive unnoticed amid the music and conversation.
The dancers whirl and leap, barely keeping up
with the fiddler's frenzied pace.
The reel reaches its climax
and ends with a flourish…
…to the delight of the crowd and
the laughing relief of the dancers.
And in the brief lull between songs…
Because I think
Islaad is Dead, Kai.
Is it true? You do not feel
a connection to our god?
Islaad was furious when his
mountain temple was attacked and
his statue burned all those years ago.
His anger has not yet abated,
but time is a small thing
for the immortal gods.
The bond has been passed to
my daughter, and I believe she will
hear his voice in time.
It seems I've had
too much to drink.
Tonight marks the beginning
of the Feast of Islaad in
celebration of our new toki.
All are welcome in our village who
come in peace, but we would know
who you are and your purpose here.
My name is Anaj…
…and I am toki to Cancalta,
the Thrice-Born Goddess.
Draejik?!
What are Draejik doing here?!
I have come here to seek an alliance
with the Artemaean people against the
blasphemies of my mother, who now
calls herself 'The Morora'.
Who are these with you?
These are my people who
have been persecuted
by the Morora.
They seek to return the Draejik
to their true beliefs.
We should speak privately about
these matters, and leave the
people to their celebration.
Yalan, see to it these
people are fed and have
a landing on which they
can sleep tonight.
Na'katar, please find our toki.
Anaj, will you
come with me?
I really enjoyed our dance!
I did too.
We should dance again sometime—!
But Kinyada doesn't hear, or perhaps chooses
not to, as he hurries to follow Anaj.
